Activities on Water

Get your paddles out for a hair raising ride along the raging River Usk. Kayaking is a great way to get close to the water as you negotiate you way through jaw-dropping waterfalls and swirling rapids. Or why not go really crazy by Canyoning, which involves you jumping like lemmings from cliffs along the river gorge.

Activities on Land

For those wanting to stay dry there’s plenty of ways to enjoy the surrounding countryside and get active. Mountain Biking is an exhilarating way to enjoy the outdoors and the terrain here takes you through forest, steep climbs and descent, moorland and open countryside. There are 14 designated routes of varying difficulty and length.

Otherwise you may prefer a more sedate but no less active walk along a myriad of paths and trails across the Brecon Beacons stunning landscape. Four different routes may be taken to climb Pen y Fan, at 886 metres Brecon Beacons’ highest peak.

The call of the wild

If you prefer your adventures on horseback then you’ll love the 600 miles of bridle paths and tracks that will take you through spectacular scenery and beautiful wildlife. There are several riding and trekking centres excelling in hacking and shorter rides.

Or perhaps it’s time to take a look at things from a new angle by testing your nerve whilst rock climbing and abseiling. The Brecon Beacons offers a range of rock climbing options including sheltered crags, rocky escarpments with great views and old quarries. Outdoor activity providers cater for all abilities and skills from beginners to expert climbers.

Additional land based activities include bushcraft, fishing, golf, geocaching and orienteering, in addition to wildlife watching and birdwatching.

Activities Under Land

Those with a fear of claustrophobia may want to avoid this one, but the Brecon Beacons provide one of the most exciting and varied caving experiences in the UK. Four of the five longest limestone cave systems lies underneath the National Park.

Expert instructors will happily light the way as you explore the fascinating array of rock formations, caves and galleries in this underground wonderland. Choose from a variety of routes to suit all abilities and levels of experience.
