Bonfire Night in Cardiff

In case you didn’t already know it: the Welsh love a party.  As a result, they go all out for occasions, and bonfire night in Cardiff is no different!

OK, so Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the House of Lords in London and not in Wales… but that’s a long way to go, and Cardiff is the capital of Wales after all.

You can enjoy firework displays in Cardiff without having to navigate overpriced places to stay, complicated public transport or notoriously unfriendly locals.  It’s a capital city without the hassle or the haste.

Top 3 Biggest Firework Displays in Cardiff

On Saturday 3rd November, two days before Guy Fawkes night, the Celtic Manor Resort lights up the sky and the evening with a full funfair and autumn festival vibe including live music, food stands and family activities. It’s open to the public as well as residents and is ticketed in advance. Of course, being just before, you can still celebrate bonfire night in Cardiff on the 5th as well!

The undisputed champion of firework displays in Cardiff goes to Sparks In The Park over at Bute Park, and this too takes place on Saturday 3rd. It has less of an intimate feel than Celtic Manor but lights more fireworks than anywhere else in the capital and attracts visitors from all over Wales and further afield. Sparks In The Park regularly sells out so be sure to book ahead to avoid disappointment.

To celebrate bonfire night in Cardiff on the night itself, head over to the St Mellons Hotel from 5pm. Truly a fireworks event for the whole family, you’ll find activities for children of all ages, a whole host of street food stands, live music from local acts and fairground rides for kids and big kids alike! There’s two firework displays during this event, so you can always take the children home and tuck them up before nipping back to watch the finale… and maybe enjoying a mulled cider (or two!).

Whatever you’re looking for from spending bonfire night in Cardiff, you’ll find it. From small intimate gatherings to lavish large spectacles, this city knows how to light up the night and dazzle the crowds. Cardiff is considerably cheaper than lots of the UK’s other cities and the Welsh hospitality is unbeatable – you’ll ‘ymserchasai’ with the country, even if not the language!
